Anker Soundcore Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Speakers Recalled Due To Fire And Burn Risk

Speaker

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced the recall of Anker Soundcore Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Speakers because the battery can overheat posing a fire and burn hazard. The speakers were sold exclusively by Amazon.com. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled speakers, and ensure they are powered off and not connected to an external power source or charger. Consumers are being directed to visit Anker at https://support.anker.com/s/emailcontactus to verify the speaker’s SN code and to fill out product recall information. Anker Innovations Limited will provide further instructions on how to obtain a replacement speaker free of charge.

Anker has received 33 reports of incidents in which the lithium-ion batteries overheated. Some of these incidents involved smoke and small fires. One individual suffered minor burn injuries as a result of the defective battery.

Lithium-ion battery fires and personal injury lawsuits

Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable batteries that are commonly found in many everyday household devices. These include electric cars, smartphones, laptops, and tablets. While most lithium-ion batteries work without a problem, they can smoke, overheat, and sometimes even explode.

Those who are injured in a lithium-ion battery fire may be entitled to recover compensation for their injuries. This process holds companies accountable for manufacturing dangerous or defective products using lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium-ion battery fires are extremely dangerous because they are very difficult to put out and can even reignite hours or days after the fire has been extinguished. Both water and fire are ineffective at putting lithium-ion battery fires out. Sometimes, attempting to put the fire out can actually make it worse.

Burn injuries generally occur when the consumer attempts to put the battery fire out. In some cases, lithium-ion battery fires can spread to other batteries making the situation even worse.

Who can I sue if I was burned by a lithium-ion battery?

If you’ve suffered an injury or property damage due to a lithium-ion battery fire, it can be grounds for a product liability lawsuit. Product liability lawsuits make it possible to hold a manufacturer or retailer liable for your injuries. That means you can sue both the company that manufactured the product and the company that placed it into the stream of commerce. In the case of the speakers mentioned above, that company would be Amazon. You are entitled to recover damages related to your hospital bills, lost wages, and permanent scarring resulting from the fire. You can also recover damages related to any property damage that the fire caused.

To do so, you will need the help of a Florida product liability lawyer.
