Baby Strollers Recalled Due Brake Failure

BabyStroller

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of Guava Family Roam Strollers due to fall and injury hazards. According to the recall, the stroller’s brakes can fail to engage or unexpectedly disengage, posing a fall and injury hazard to children. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and contact the company for a free repair kit and instructions on how to install the new brakes. Guava Family has received 67 reports of the brake lock disengaging. The firm has also received 152 reports of the brake pedal not engaging when pushed down. No injuries have yet to be reported.

The products were sold online at www.guavafamily.com and www.babylist.com from August 2020 through October 2023 for between $500 and $550.

Peg Perego baby stroller lawsuits and recalls

Lawsuits involving baby strollers are rare, but in 2019, Peg Perego faced a lawsuit over one of its brands of baby strollers. According to the lawsuit, the baby strollers were defective causing them to turn over and resulting in the death of infants. Peg Perego settled the suit for $4 million compensating the families of victims for wrongful death.

In 2012, Peg Perego recalled two older models of its strollers, the Venezia and Pliki-P3, due to the risk of entrapment and strangulation. The recall was issued after a baby was strangled. His head became trapped between the seat and tray of the Peg Perego stroller. The recall included strollers manufactured between January 2004 and September 2007. The products were sold by retailers such as Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby.

Later, in 2023, Peg Perego recalled its YPSI and Z4 inclined sleeper bassinets due to a violation of the Safe Sleep for Babies Act, a piece of consumer legislation that creates a minimum set of standards for baby sleepers. The recall was issued after the CPSC found the bassinets had an inclined angle greater than 10 degrees and did not have a stand.

BOB baby stroller lawsuits and recalls

In February of 2018, the CPSC filed an administrative complaint against the company BOB alleging that its strollers were defective. The complaint urged the company to stop selling the affected models, alert the public to the issue, and offer a resolution. The CPSC claimed that since 2012, approximately 200 consumers reported that the stroller’s front wheel unexpectedly detached causing injury to both infants and parents. The lawsuit was later settled in 2018, but no recall was ever issued. The company that produced the strollers agreed to notify consumers and develop an informational campaign.
