BISSELL Recalls 3 Million Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners Due To Burn Hazard

Bissell has announced the recall of more than 3 million Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners due to a potential burn hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. According to the recall, the recalled handheld steam cleaners can expel hot water or steam onto users while heating up or during use, posing a potential burn hazard.

The recall involves multiple models of the BISSELL Steam Shot Handheld Steam Cleaners in the model series 39N7 and 2994. The model numbers are printed on the product rating label located at the bottom of the unit.

Consumers are instructed to immediately stop using the recalled steam cleaners and contact BISSELL to receive either a $60 credit (to be used toward a BISSELL.com purchase) or a $40 refund for each recalled steam cleaner. Consumers can visit www.BISSELL.com/steamshotrecall to register for the recall and for instructions on how to cut the cord. They can also upload a photo showing the model number of the destroyed merchandise to BISSELL.

At present, BISSELL has received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping from the product. This includes 157 reports of minor burn injuries.

Steam cleaner recalls 

This isn’t the first time a steam cleaning product has been recalled due to a potential burn hazard. In April, the CPSC announced the recall of two million Black & Decker steamers because they can “expel or spray” hot water or steam during use. In that case, there were more than 80 reports of burn injuries. Seven of those were second-degree burns. The steamers were part of a previous recall making similar claims about potential burn injuries. The second recall added more model numbers to the original recall.

In February of this year, Vornado announced the recall of 2 million steam cleaning devices for yet another potential burn hazard. Again, hot water could spray from the nozzle causing burn injuries to users. In that case, there were 23 reports of consumers experiencing burns or other injuries related to the steamers.

This was the second recall related to a Vornado steam product. The first occurred in 2023 and was related to its Vornado steam iron. Damage to the power cord could cause the device to overheat resulting in burn and fire hazards. Vornado received 24 reports of the power cord overheating. 18 of these reports included details of the cord sparking, burning, or showing signs of excessive heat damage.
