Cabinet Heaters Sold By Amazon Recalled

Heater_Fan

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recently announced the recall of Caframo Cabinet Heaters due to an electrocution hazard. According to the recall, the crimp holding a wire in place in the cabinet heater is not properly finished and can result in the wire detaching, posing an electrocution hazard.

The recall involves model 9421 Cabinet Heaters which are primarily intended for keeping cabinets and parking ticket dispensers warm. The cabinet heater has a black painted steel enclosure that measures 5-¾ inches wide by 9 inches long by 3-⅓ inches high. It has a serial plate, an on/off switch, and a label with Model 9421 that are located at the top of the heater near the power cord.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled cabinet heaters, unplug the unit, and contact Caframo Limited for instructions on how to receive a free repair or replacement unit. Caframo will provide a pre-paid shipping label for consumers to return the product to the company for repair. If the product cannot be repaired, Caframo will mail the consumer a replacement. The company is contacting all known purchasers directly.

The product was sold by several retailers including Amazon.com. No injuries have been reported.

Electrocution and shock hazard product liability suits

Consumer products can cause electrocution injuries. When they do, the company that manufactured the product and the retailer that made the product available in the stream of commerce are liable for any injuries caused to a consumer. The consumer can file a product liability lawsuit alleging that they were electrocuted by a dangerous product. The company that manufactured the product is strictly liable under the law. That means that the plaintiff does not need to prove negligence. They only need to establish that they were using the product in a way that could be readily anticipated by the company that manufactured it when they were injured. In other words, they weren’t taking the product apart or something.

Injuries caused by electrocution and shock hazard

You can be severely injured, even killed, due to an electrical shock hazard. Potential injuries due to electrical shock include:

  • Both internal and external burns
  • Nerve damage
  • Heart damage, including cardiac arrest or irregular heartbeat
  • Respiratory problems including breathing problems or lung failure
  • Brain damage
  • Broken bones caused by violent muscle contractions
  • Memory loss

Minor electrical shock injuries can result in mild burns. Serious electrical shock injuries can result in permanent injury or death.
