CPSC Announces Recall Of Defective Bike Helmet

BikeHelmet

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of Korimefa Multi-Purpose Bike Helmets. According to the CPSC, the recalled helmets do not comply with the positional stability requirements of the CPSC federal safety standard for bicycle helmets. In some cases, the helmets can fail to protect in the event of a crash, posing a risk of head injury.

Korimefa is offering refunds to customers as a remedy for the problem. A total of about 60 units were recalled. No injuries have yet to be reported.

Bike helmet and helmet product liability cases

Bicycle and other forms of helmets are among the most-often recalled products on the market. These devices are your only form of defense between your head and the hard concrete if you should get into an accident. For obvious reasons, there are federal regulations related to the quality of motorcycle helmets, bike helmets, and other helmets. When a defective helmet fails to perform as advertised and an individual is severely injured as a result, you can file a product liability case against the manufacturer of the helmet to recover damages related to your injuries.

Often, these cases involve complex brain and head injuries and it can be difficult to diagnose the full extent of these injuries even months after the accident has occurred.

Colorado jury awards $11.5M to family in helmet lawsuit

One product liability lawsuit involving helmets netted the plaintiffs an impressive $11.5 million. This lawsuit was filed by the family of a teenager who sustained repeated blows to the head while playing high school football. The helmet maker, Riddell, was sued as a result of the teenager’s injuries.

While jurors rejected the plaintiff’s arguments that Riddell’s helmets were defectively designed, they did assign fault to Riddell for failure to warn customers about the potential dangers related to the helmet.

The high school football player suffered a concussion during a football practice. He was not immediately taken to the hospital and now suffers from severe brain damage as well as paralysis on the left side of his body.

Akoury helmet lawsuit

Lawsuits have been filed against the helmet maker Akoury over a recall that affects their Boss67 motorcycle helmets. According to the NHTSA, the recalled helmets may lack proper impact protection and fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS). A helmet that does not provide adequate protection could increase the risk of injury or death.

Filing a helmet product liability lawsuit

To successfully file a helmet product liability lawsuit, you must be able to establish that the helmet failed to protect you during a fall. If you can link the extent of your injuries to a defect in the helmet, you can file suit against the manufacturer to recover damages.
