If the classification is moderate, then there is a 65% chance of permanent brain damage, while if severe, then there is a 100% chance of the individual suffering from permanent disability.
Depending on the severity and nature of the traumatic brain injury, the course of treatment can vary substantially. Immediately following the brain injury, it is essential that the individual be taken in for emergency treatment so as to prevent any further damage and to make sure the patient is stable. On the other hand, if it is a more mild brain injury, the indivudal may only need to spend a few days at a rehabilitation center. The prognosis oftentimes depends on the duration of the coma or unconsciousness, the age of the individual and the post–traumatic amnesia that may result.
