High Chairs Sold Exclusively By Amazon.com Recalled Due To Entrapment Hazards

HighChair2

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recently issued a recall for MJKSARE high chairs for violating federal regulations and posing an entrapment and fall hazard. According to the recall, the recalled high chairs violate the regulations for high chairs, as the leg openings on the high chair are too wide, posing an entrapment hazard for infants. In addition to that problem, the high chairs also pose a fall hazard because the tray can become disengaged from the apparatus.

The company is offering refunds to customers who purchased the high chair. About 4,760 units were affected by the recall. The high chairs sold on Amazon for about $70. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and contact the company for instructions on how to dispose of the high chair and receive a full refund. Amazon is contacting all known purchasers directly.

Defective high chair lawsuits

A recent lawsuit filed over a defective high chair buckle has been filed in South Carolina. According to the lawsuit, the high chair buckle is to blame for a toddler falling out of the device and fracturing his skull in 2021. The toddler’s father is suing the high chair manufacturer and distributor along with a local restaurant.

The family visited the restaurant on Sept. 16, 2021. According to the suit, the child was “properly buckled in” to the highchair by his father who was unaware of the faulty buckle. Due to the defective buckle, the infant fell out of the high chair. He struck his head on the floor and sustained a fracture to his skull and a traumatic brain injury. Due to the traumatic brain injury, the child has experienced developmental delays and cognitive problems.

Filing a product liability lawsuit

Filing a product liability lawsuit over a defective high chair is definitely not outside the realm of possibility. While no injuries have been reported, the dangers posed by this high chair are quite significant. The design flaw in the chair’s leg openings creates an entrapment hazard. The infant’s body could slip into an awkward position, potentially leading to serious injuries including dislocated joints and broken bones. The high chair also has a fall hazard as the tray can detach leaving the infant prone.

If any infants are injured by the defective high chair, their parents can file a product liability lawsuit against both the manufacturer of the product and the retailer who sold the product (in this case, the product was made exclusively available on Amazon). In these cases, Amazon is liable for injuries.
