Lawsuit Filed To Investigate Goodyear Marathon Tire Blowouts

TireBulge

Attorneys are investigating whether or not a lawsuit can be filed on behalf of fifth-wheel camper owners who had issues with Goodyear’s Marathon tires. Potential plaintiffs claim that the tires are suffering from tread separations, blowouts, and other problems far earlier than expected. In some cases, blowouts and tread separations have been reported within the first several thousand miles.

Attorneys for the plaintiffs are attempting to get certified as a class. The lawsuit could help fifth-wheel camper owners get back the money they spent repairing and replacing their tires. It could also force Goodyear to recall any problematic tires and/or alert customers to any potential issues with the tire.

Potential plaintiffs believe that Goodyear is aware of the tire failures as dozens of drivers have apparently brought their tires to Goodyear dealers to have them fixed or replaced. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received at least 100 complaints regarding the tires.

What problems are being reported concerning the tires?

Trailer owners have reported several problems with the tires. These include:

  • Blowouts and tire explosions
  • Bubbles/blisters on the sidewall
  • Loss of pressure and flat tires
  • Tread separation

If any of these occur while the vehicle is in motion, it can pose an imminent safety hazard to the driver. Once a tire blows out, the vehicle begins pulling in the direction of the blowout. Many individuals overcompensate by attempting to turn the car in the opposite direction. This can result in a rollover accident. Often, when a tire blows out, the driver loses control of the car. This can cause a multi-vehicle accident on the highway. Since campers spend a lot of time on highways, potential tread failure in a tire is a dire indictment against the quality of the tire.

What are customers saying?

One customer reported that he purchased four new Goodyear Marathon trailer tires for his fifth-wheel camper in June 2012. Two of the four tires blew in the first 1500 miles. The blowouts caused damage to his camper, but luckily, the driver and his passengers were uninjured.

Another customer reported that they suffered a blowout on I75 which caused damage to his RV. The RV was in storage for a year, but after, it suffered another blowout. It then suffered two more blowouts in 2015. In each case, the tread had separated from the tire causing a blowout. The customer filed a claim with Goodyear, but Goodyear rejected the claim saying that the tire must have been low on air.
