Liberty Hardware Recalls Multi-Grip Tub Safety Bars Due To Fall Hazard

BathtubHandle

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of nearly 175,000 tub safety bars. According to the recall, the plastic sticker grip pads can become dislodged after installation on tubs with tapered side walls, making the recalled tub safety bars unstable during use. This poses a fall hazard to any individual who relies on the tub safety bar for support.

Liberty Hardware is offering refunds to anyone who purchased the tub safety bar. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and can request to receive a pre-paid label and free packaging to return the product for a $35 refund.

At present, Liberty Hardware has received 14 reports of the plastic sticker grip pads becoming dislodged after installation or otherwise needing to be replaced. One of the reports included a fall with a minor injury reported.

The recalled tub safety bars were sold at Walmart, Ace Hardware, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, and other hardware and plumbing stores nationwide. It was also sold on Amazon.com and FlyingBulldogs.com from January 2011 through May 2024 for between $16 and $55.

Injuries resulting from defective tub safety bars

Bathroom safety is a major concern for older Americans and those with physical disabilities. Tub grip handles are designed to provide stability and support, helping consumers get in and out of the bathtub easier and reducing the risk of falls. When such a safety product fails to perform as advertised, it can result in substantial injury to the purchaser. In these cases, since the product was defective, the manufacturer of the product and its retailer are liable for any injuries the defective product causes.

In the case of these tub safety bars, the bar itself can become dislodged as the grip pads on the recalled tub handles detach. This renders the handles unreliable and unstable. Those who use the handles to support their body weight could find themselves in a precarious position. The defect poses a significant risk of falls. This can result in injuries such as traumatic brain injury, broken bones, spinal cord injuries, and in some cases, death. Those relying on the tub handles for support can sustain serious injury if the handles detach from the tub.

Product liability lawsuits and tub handles

If you relied on the tub handle for support and it gave way causing you to sustain a serious injury as a result of that product failure, then you are entitled to recover damages related to your injuries. You will need the aid of a skilled product liability lawyer to file your case and recover damages related to your medical expenses, lost wages, and reduced quality of life.
