Manhattan Comfort Recalls Floating Wall Theater Entertainment Centers And Panels Due To Injury Risk

TV_FloatingWall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Manhattan Comfort recently announced the recall of their floating wall theater entertainment centers and panels. According to the recall, when attached to drywall without toggle bolts, the panels of the recalled floating wall theater can detach and fall, posing a serious injury hazard to consumers. Further, when the bottom panel is attached to any wall surface without installing the safety screw that is included with the product, the bottom panel can detach and fall, posing an injury hazard to consumers.

Consumers are advised that if the recalled floating wall theater entertainment center and panels have been attached to drywall without toggle bolts, consumers should clear the space underneath and immediately surrounding the entertainment center and stay away from it. Consumers are advised to contact Manhattan Comfort for a free repair. The company says the repair will consist of providing consumers with toggle bolts and instructions on how to remove and reinstall the floating theater.

If the bottom panel of the recalled theater center has been attached to any wall surface without the included safety screw, consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled entertainment center and contact Manhattan Comfort for a free repair. Manhattan Comfort will provide consumers with a replacement safety screw and instructions on how to apply the safety screw.

According to the CPSC, the firm has received 51 reports of the panels detaching, including three minor injuries such as scrapes and bruising. While injuries thus far have been generally minor, the collapse of the entertainment system under certain conditions can cause severe injury to a potential customer.

Collapsing entertainment center lawsuits

While Manhattan Comfort has yet to face any lawsuits related to the collapse of its entertainment system, several such lawsuits have been filed against manufacturers in the past. In 2010, about 24,000 American Signature entertainment centers were recalled over reports that several of them collapsed, sometimes falling onto consumers. The recall centered around at least four reports of the shelf above the television collapsing. At least two people were seriously injured including a child whose fingers were struck and an adult who suffered an injury to their mouth and required stitches. Consumers also reported minor property damage as well.

The CPSC determined that the entertainment centers’ shelves can slip off and fall when the center is moved slightly.
