Meijer Recalls Konwin Desktop Heaters Amid Fire And Burn Injury Risk

DesktopHeater

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of Konwin Desktop Heaters. According to the CPSC, the heater’s fan can fail to turn on and cause the unit to overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards. The recall date for this product is March 13, 2025. Roughly 6,050 units were recalled by the CPSC.

According to the CPSC, the recalled Konwin branded desktop heaters with model number BHN2133. The heater has a white plastic frame with a black fan and black grill covers. The heater measures about 12 inches high and about 10 inches wide. “Konwin” and the model number are printed on a label on the bottom of the heater.

The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled desktop heaters and return them to any Meijer store for a full refund through the original form of payment. At present, the company has received 8 reports of fans burning and melting but no injuries have been reported.

The desktop heaters were sold exclusively at Meijer stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Kentucky from September 2024 through January 2025 for between $25 and $40.

Electric heater product liability lawsuits

Lawsuits filed against the manufacturers of electric heaters are very common. In November of 2024, about 512,500 Govee Space Heaters were recalled due to fire and burn injury hazards. Govee reported that the problem was related to defective wireless control features, which could cause the space heaters to overheat and catch fire. At the time, there were 113 reports of space heaters overheating, including seven reports of fires, and one person who suffered a minor burn injury. These space heaters were sold nationwide from September 2021 through September 2024 online at Amazon.com, us.govee.com, the Govee Home App and TikTok Shop.

In addition to the Govee recall, Vornado Air recalled about 79,000 Vornado electric space heaters after 7 reports of fires, one report of a person who suffered smoke inhalation, and property damage. Vornado said there were 29 reports of space heaters overheating and melting.

Consumers who suffer a serious injury or property damage as a result of a defective heater can file product liability lawsuits against both the manufacturer and the retailer who made the product available in the stream of commerce. Such lawsuits are often the only way to hold a manufacturer directly responsible for manufacturing a defective product that causes serious injury.
