Playpens Sold Exclusively By Amazon Recalled Due To Suffocation Hazard
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of Gimars Playpens due to violations of federal regulations concerning play yards and the risk of entrapment and suffocation hazards. According to the CPSC, the included basketball hoop accessory can cause a head entrapment hazard and children can also become entrapped beneath the mattress, posing a potential suffocation hazard.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled playpen and keep it away from children. Consumers should disassemble the playpen and cut the fabric floor, mattress pad, and basketball hoop accessory into two pieces. Consumers should then upload photos of the cut product using the online submission form, or email the photos to Gimars-Aftersales@outlook.com to obtain a full refund. Shenzhen Jingdu Technology and Amazon are contacting all known purchasers directly.
This isn’t the first playpen Amazon has sold that violates federal regulations on playpens. In fact, on September 26, 2024, the CPSC announced the recall of another playpen that was sold exclusively by Amazon.com. The CPSC announced the recall of LEHOM Baby Playpens due to entrapment and suffocation hazards for infants.
Further, the LEHOM Baby Playpens violate federal safety regulations for play yards due to the inclusion of a basketball hoop accessory that can cause a head entrapment hazard. In addition, children can become entrapped beneath the mattress, posing a suffocation hazard. Further, the zippers on the unit contain levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content ban and the PVC suction cups contain levels of phthalates that exceed the federal phthalate prohibition. Both lead and phthalates are toxic if ingested by young children and can cause serious health consequences.
In this case, the importer, RYZ International Trading Limited, of Hong Kong, did not agree to offer any acceptable recall remedy to consumers. The LEHOM playpens were sold online at Amazon.com from May 2022 through July 2023 for between $103 and $140.
CPSC urges consumers to destroy all LEHOM baby playpens
The CPSC is urging consumers to stop using the product immediately and destroy it. The product presents multiple risks to any child who uses it. If a child is injured by the product, both the manufacturer and the retailer (in this case, Amazon) are liable for any medical expenses incurred as a result of an injury. Further, if your child was injured using a recalled playpen, you are entitled to recover damages related to your child’s pain and suffering.
