Thy Trading Company Recalls Roll-Up Window Blinds Due To Strangulation Hazard

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of Thy Trading Company roll-up window blinds for violating federal regulations for minimum safety standards for window blinds. The window blinds were sold exclusively at Wayfair.com. Window blinds with long cords pose a substantial choking and strangulation hazard to children. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the window blinds and contact the company for a full refund. Consumers should remove the window blind, mark it with the word “recalled”, and dispose of the product in the garbage. The consumer should also take a photograph of the window blind destroyed in the garbage and upload the photo to thytradingllc@outlook.com to register their product to receive a refund. Thy Trading Company is contacting all known purchasers directly.
Window blind strangulation lawsuits
You probably don’t think of your window blinds as a dangerous household object, but if you’re a child, window blinds pose a serious threat to your safety. According to USA TODAY, injuries and deaths from window blind cords send two children to the emergency room each day. A child who gets tangled up in the window blinds may not be able to escape and they may injure themselves in the attempt to disentangle themselves from the blinds.
The parents of children who suffer injuries due to their children becoming entangled in the window blinds can file lawsuits against the window blind manufacturers. These lawsuits are filed under a theory of product liability. Essentially, you argue that the product is intrinsically defective, has a manufacturing defect, or the company that manufactured the product failed to warn consumers about a known danger.
How common are window blind injuries?
According to a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) which used data from 1990 to 2015, there were approximately 16,827 injuries related to window blinds among children under six years of age. This is an injury rate of 2.7 per 100,000 children. Around 12% of those injuries were from entanglement and 98.9% of those entanglement injuries involved window blind cords. The majority of entanglements involved the child’s neck (98.7%), and a significant number of entanglement incidents resulted in death (67.1%).
In addition, The US Consumer Product Safety Commission lists window blind coverings with cords as one of the top five hidden household hazards. According to the CPSC, these cords can present a danger to children up to 8 years old. Throughout its history, the CPSC has recalled over 5 million window coverings, including blinds and Roman shades.
